Two girls found dead, mother arrested in Perth suburbs

PERTH, Australia: Police have arrested a woman after the bodies of her two young daughters were found in a house in Perth’s northern suburbs on Friday.

Police were called to the Bogdanich Way property in Madeley at about 6 pm, as they responded to calls from concerned neighbours.

Children aged six and 10 were found dead at the property.

Western Australian police found the children’s mother with wounds at a beach near Madeley home. She was taken to the hospital in police custody.

The West Australian Assistant Commissioner Paul Steel said the mother was arrested at about 8:40 pm on Friday night.

“It appears that she has self-inflicted wounds that are non-life threatening,” he said.

“This is a tragic event and our heartfelt condolences go out to the friends and family of the children,” he condoled over the death of children.

Steel said the children’s father was helping with the investigation, who was not at the home when the bodies were discovered.

The WA Premier Mark McGowan called the events, “shocking, appalling, horrible, tragic!”.

“We’ll make sure that there is support for children at the [victims’] school, psychological support and the like, but it’s just one of those horrible, horrible things that sometimes occur,” he said.

“My thoughts go out to the family of the young girls.”

Homicide detectives and forensic police are investigating the cause of deaths.
