MELBOURNE, Australia: A school student was forced to kiss the shoe of another boy in fear of getting beaten up, while another was cussed every day.
A 12-year-old at a secondary college and a five-year-old boy at a Melbourne primary school left their schools due to religious abuse.
The boy was violently beaten and ended up in the hospital.
In a leaked video, the kid was seen being forced to kiss the shoe of another classmate to avoid confrontation with nine other children.
The five-year-old’s mother said the boy began wetting his pants in class in fear of bullying.
”Mummy, you shouldn’t love me. I’m worthless… I’m vermin,” the kid had once exclaimed to his mother as he refused to go to school.
His mother then found out her son was being bullied by five other children every day in the school bathroom.
The school had allowed the student to use another toilet to curb future bullying incidents.
Victoria law criminalizes such offences against individuals.
Article 8 (1) of the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001 reads, “A person must not, on the ground of the religious belief or activity of another person or class of persons, engage in conduct that incites hatred against, serious contempt for, or revulsion or severe ridicule of, that other person or class of persons.”
Under article 19(1c) of the law, a child or parent are authorized to complain to the Equal Opportunity Commission pertaining to any racial or religious abuse.
Such cases can lead up to six months of imprisonment in Victoria.
