10 Things That could Make Mahira Khan’s Superstar A Must Watch

Hum Films and M & D Films’ Superstar may be one of the three films to be released this Eid ul Azha, but it certainly is the most awaited. For the fans of Mahira Khan, it seems to have more pluses than both the ‘other’ films, combined. Let’s analyze some of these finer points that might compel you to visit your nearest cinema and watch the film with your loved ones. Here goes:

  1. Stardom at its best with Mahira Khan leading the way

Ask your friends ‘who the biggest film star in Pakistan amongst the current actress is’ and five out of seven would say Mahira Khan. The beautiful actress, who is being criticized for her acting capabilities, is likely to respond like a batsman who lets his bat do the talking, instead of replying to every Firdous, Veena, and Nadia. She looks gorgeous in the trailer and judging from the way she has danced in the songs, it seems that Superstar might turn out to be her best work yet. And if it does well, we would expect an end to the trash talk about her superstardom, because the more she is criticized, the more she will rise.

  1. A tailor-made role for Nadeem Baig after a long time

The name of his first film director was Ehteshamuddin, and his latest one is named the same. Back then, he was a shy advertising executive who had no idea about acting; today Nadeem Baig is one of the finest film actors around, in fact, he is the real Superstar of Pakistan. He plays Mahira Khan’s grandfather in the film and gets to pass on the torch to youngsters around him, lighting the way for a better future. He looks serious in some of the shots in the trailer, looks part of the youth in Dosto and delivers dialogues like a boss, with the same authority that has kept his film career going since 1967.

  1. Expect a new improved Bilal Ashraf, BA 2.0

When he was selected to play Mahira Khan’s love interest, many were hoping that M & D Films might reconsider their step, for Bilal Ashraf’s last hit film came in 2016, where he was relegated to supporting role by Ali Rehman Khan in Janaan. Afterward, all his films flopped and the final nail in the coffin was Rangreza where despite being paired with his buddy Gohar Rasheed, he couldn’t do anything right. Since then, he has trained hard for both his physical and mental fitness and under the tutelage of theatre guru Sunil Shanker, he has evolved into a better actor than before. He looks more mature and hearty in the trailer and the songs, and if that doesn’t indicate an improvement, I don’t know what will!

  1. The new Kazmi on the block

Before you move ahead, let me tell you that Nadeem Baig and Rahat Kazmi have acted in a number of films during the late 70s and the 80s. It would be interesting to see how Ali Kazmi, the son of the same Rahat Kazmi manages to do in front of the same Nadeem Baig. No matter what anyone says about Ali, he is one of the finest actors we have in Pakistan and if anyone can stand his ground in today’s world in front of the best, Ali Kazmi is that person’s name. Let’s hope he doesn’t disappoint and takes forward his father’s legacy forward, making him and us proud!

  1. A story like never before

Some said that the film might resemble Aashiqui 2, a few said that the plot is lifted from A Star Is Born, some claimed that it had elements of Abhimaan and Sargam, but Azaan Sami Khan says that it is different to all these films, and more. He feels that people must not pass judgment without watching the film and we should do the same. In fact, the trailer might throw you in another direction before there is a twist in the tale. Therefore we will wait for the film’s release and then comment on which film it reminds us of, if any!

  1. Explosive dialogues to take back home

And then there is Mustafa Afridi, the Mufasa of all TV writers in Pakistan. The man behind Sang e Mar Mar, Aangan and many other TV dramas was roped in to polish the edges of Azaan Sami Khan’s screenplay and ended up writing dialogues that add weight to the trailer. From Tamasha Hai To Tamasha Hi Sahi to the one describing a Superstar, there are many dialogues that you would gladly take back home and deliver in front of your friends.

  1. Film direction for a change

If I was asked to pick and choose a Director and a Cinematographer from TV to work in a film, I would go for Ehteshamuddin and Khizer Idrees respectively who did an excellent job in Aangan. They not only captured the beauty of the location but also the actors and made us all fall in love with Mawra Hocane, Sajal Aly, Ahad Raza Mir, and others. One look at the framing in the Superstar trailer and you will know that the duo has exceeded all expectations delivering a film that might inspire others to study films.

  1. Songs that are classy and go with the flow

He might be 25 years old but it wouldn’t be incorrect to say that Azaan Sami Khan is the true Superstar of this film. He has not just written the screenplay but also composed the songs (with Saad Sultan) that instantly connect with the audience. Be it the romantic ballad Bekaraan or the filmi Noori, they all seem catchy to the listeners. Then there is Atif Aslam’s In Dinon that makes you want to fall in love; same goes for Ghalat Fehmi and Doston that carry the story forward as they do in Bollywood. The latter comes out as one of the new-age songs to be filmed on veteran actor Nadeem Baig who lip-syncs for the first time in 19 years, as per his own calculations. And then there is the biggest chichora song of the album, Dharak Bharak that pays a tribute to all such songs out there.

  1. Background score to die for

The famous film director Javaid Fazil was of the opinion that Pakistani films have ‘foreground music’ instead of background music because, none of the music directors give this important aspect of films the time and respect it deserves. Superstar is not one of those films because here, the man behind the screenplay is also the film’s music director, something only Khwaja Khursheed Anwar and Shoaib Mansoor have done before. Azaan Sami Khan, who claims to have written the film’s story after composing the songs is likely to give background score the respect it deserves, because he knows what the audience wants, and our films lack.

  1. Cameo appearances for all kinds of audience

The film’s trailer is full of cameo appearances; there is the loveable Osman Khalid Butt and the sexy Kubra Khan in Noori and Dharak Bharak songs respectively, the cute Hania Amir in one of the party scenes and the elegant Syra Shahroz in what looks like a film sequence. Each one of the actors have a fan base that resides around the world and through this gimmick, the producers have delivered an ace that will help the film hit the competition out of the park, around the world. There might be other cameo appearances in the film but you will have to watch Superstar releasing on 9th August to find out whether your favorite celebrity is there, or not.
