The limit and restraint are the words unknown to the regional dominance-driven and power-hungry India. The perception of shining India is now blinding India, leading it to the darkness of self-distraction.
As of February 27, 2019 misadventure sours their memory, ICJ’s case verdict on Kulbhushan Jadhav added to the sham, but the power-hungry Hindu nationalist government headed by Narendra Modi is just not willing to stop. Every time they set a new standard of brutality and state terrorism in the region.
July 30 and 31, 2019 marks another dark day in the history of South Asia when India used cluster bombs in Neelum valley. The Indian government has asked the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims to leave the Kashmir valley and ordered the Indian Air Force to airlift them to places such as Pathankot, Delhi or Jammu. Moreover, they have asked the tourists and non-Kashmiri students to leave the disputed region immediately. The order came a day after India deployed 10,000 additional troops in the area. At least 12 Kashmiris have been killed in Kashmir in the last two days.
As the momentum of Kashmir’s indigenous movement has acquired its all-time high, with a sharp increase in the number of youngsters joining the movement. On August 5, the Rajya Sabha revoked all clauses of Article 370 from the constitution, which stated that the Indian Parliament cannot increase or reduce the borders of the state. Additionally, it made Ladakh a part of Indian union.
Modi government has also removed article 35 A as well and replicate the strategy used by Israel in Palestine to reshape the demography of the region. They plan to divide the Jammu Kashmire into the three union territories of Jammu, Valley and Ladakh, which is alarming for China as well. Aksai Chin is the disputed border between India and China. Moreover, Ladakh strategic significance increased as it is the crossroads of important trade routes of the region.
At the same time, India is playing its cards cleverly; for example, India used cluster bombs on LoC. The United States of America, China, India, Russia, Israel, Brazil and Pakistan have opposed the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM), which is an international treaty that prohibits the use, transfer, and stockpiling of cluster bombs, making it complicated to address the occurrence on humanitarian grounds. Nevertheless, it is volition of Geneva Convention and international humanitarian law.
There was a time when India was a threat to its neighbours only. Now India is a global threat. In February Modi for his political interest drove the world to a verge of a global nuclear crisis. He blatantly used Indian army and media like a tool for his and his party’s interest.
The sane voices are either fading away or losing audience in the so-called secular India. In fact, there is a strange appreciation and criminal silence on human rights volition and killings based on religion. The power focused, and the media-driven war was not only a threat to the region, but it had global repercussions. The situation was calmed because of the wisdom of Imran Khan’s government and Pakistan Army, but it was indeed a close call.
Indian brutality has gradually evolved from palette guns to cluster bombs. With every step, Indian has emerged as more confident and even more brutal. The US has invested in India for control in the region, particularly China, safeguarding the US strategic interest in the region, and for sustainable peace in Afghanistan. Failing to deliver the result, India is gradually losing its position globally.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s increasing significance and presence in the global scenario is adding to Indian’s anxiety. In such senior Kashmir issue needs immediate attention as it is the trigger point with the potential to instigate a war between two nuclear nations.
The US also has to reflect on its alliance with India. The stubborn reaction from India in response to President Donald Trump suggestion to mediate the Kashmir issue should raise some concerns in the White House.
Furthermore, Kashmir is a bleeding wound in the heart of India, which is draining its maximum military and financial resources. India has created an economic illusion through facts fabrication and manipulation. The pressure on the Indian economy is causing the bubble of shining India to bust. Additionally, the Kashmir issue is now getting international attention.
The “Attot ang” which has parted in conscious 72 years ago is now uncontrollable. To set a new standard in brutality, India is now planning genocide on Kashmiris. In this regard, the SOS message from Syed Ali Geelani cannot be ignored. It not far from India, which is mesmerised in its self created charisma, to perceive that it can replicate Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Rwanda and can get away with it. Planning and carrying out genocide is nothing new for India. Its history has frequent examples of such event, which left the world devastated. 1947 partition, 1982 the Operation Blue Star and 2002 Gujarat riots explain what India can do mercilessly.
Moreover, Modi was chief minister during the Gujarat 2002 anti-Muslim riots and intentionally allowed it. Indeed India is living in a fool’s paradise, which is a global threat.
Here it is essential to understand why India has become more aggressive and ruthless in Kashmir? India has invested 15 years in keeping Pakistan isolated globally, using the terrorist card and other similar propaganda. It was successful as we lacked a vocal voice globally without any defined and focused foreign policy.
After the 2018 election, the situation transformed completely. Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi joined the cabinet as Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, under the leadership of Imran Khan and implemented a targeted foreign policy aiming to reach out and connect with the world. PM Imran Khan raised the voice for Kashmir on the forums, which matter the most such as during his US visit, which resulted in bringing the Kashmir issue into the limelight. After that, chaos in India was evident.
The change of government and unified military and civilian strategy is increasing India’s concern. India has invested time and effort to put Pakistan on the blacklist.
The Indian narrative in FATF is losing is grounds. Pakistan is breaking out from the cliché of terrorism, and being recognised for its significance. Therefore, it is fair to suspect all these initiatives are a part of the narrative building strategy against Pakistan. In addition to that more incidents similar to Pulwama attack will be witnessed soon to support the Indian narrative.
It can be for optics only, but the Modi government is known for its arrogance and power shows, making the situation more complicated for the PM Imran Khan government. Shiv Sinha’s leader Sajawat Rot expressed his malintention for the region, saying after resolving Kashmir India’s next focus is Balochistan.
The ICJ’ Kulbhushan Jadhav case verdict has shaken the foundation of Indian stance on the Kashmir issue. Indian presented Kashmir as a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan. On the other hand, Pakistan considers it a multilateral issue, which should involve the opinion and will of the Kashmiris as they are the primary stakeholders. India advocates that the Simla Agreement signed between India and Pakistan on July 2, 1972 is more applicable as it supersedes the 1949 resolutions of UN Commission for India and Pakistan or Articles of UN 1946 resolution for Non-Self Governing Territories.
On the other hand, the ICJ’s verdict stated that a bilateral treaty between Pakistan and India does not supersede the Vienna Convention and therefore Vienna Convention is applicable in its full totality. This offers the foundation to dismiss India claims of superiority of the Simla Agreement over the UN resolution regarding Kashmir, opening new horizons of possibilities for the Kashmir Issue resolution.
Kashmiris are doing their part, giving scarifies, fight for their right, and keeping steady. They need a voice globally, which only Pakistan can provide them. Not only that, they need a continuous, forceful and convincing voice. India is now hasty, and the time is ticking. India has a government, which is nostalgic about its Hindu nationalism. It is power-hungry and self-focused. India is showing its intention clearly by repeatedly rejecting Pakistan’s initiative for peace through negotiation. Kashmir is a nuclear confrontation trigger point, and India’s overconfidence is amplifying the situation. Pakistan has shown restraint, but now Indian plans are more fetal than ever before. Besides if this is a trap to develop optics for anti-Pakistan narrative building, it is important that Pakistan should employ sagacity in planning, strategy development and implementation.
No doubt the Modi government is opting for a challenge beyond logical comprehension, but there is a promised fall to brutality and arrogance. Most probably we are witnessing the fall of the power-driven India. It is evident now that India is emerging as a threat to the global peace. Resolution of Kashmir issue is essential to ensure peace in the region. My question was and remains that is the world a safe place with Indian nuclear weapons in Modi’s hands?
