Perth police officer faces 15 years in jail for child exploitation material recovery

PERTH: An officer of Western Australia police is facing up to 15 years in jail after child exploitation materials were recovered from his home during a raid.

The 29-year-old First Class Constable is set to appear in court today facing one charge of possessing child exploitation material and three counts of using a carriage service for child pornography.

The latter carries a maximum prison sentence of 15 years behind bars.

Australian Federal Police say that the WA officer was stood down from duty on June 7 following the charges. He was raided after a tip-off from Canada’s National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (NCECC).

A search warrant was then carried out on his northern suburbs home earlier this month and his computer and other devices were seized.

It will be alleged these devices were used to both access, and transmit child exploitation material.

WA Police have confirmed that the officer was working in the Perth Metropolitan area when the alleged offences occurred.
