Zalmay Khalilzad calls on Army Chief, discusses Afghan reconciliation process

RAWALPINDI: US special representative for Afghanistan Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at GHQ.

Khalilzad discussed with Army Chief the ongoing Afghan reconciliation process, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement here.

The meeting took place at the General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi. Overall regional security situation with particular reference to the ongoing Afghan reconciliation process came under discussion during the meeting.

On the occasion, the US special envoy appreciated Pakistan’s efforts towards the ongoing peace process, the ISPR added.

Earlier this morning, delegation-level talks between Pakistan and the United States were held at the Foreign Office to discuss progress on the Afghan peace process.

The Pakistani delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua while the American delegation was headed by Khalilzad.

Followed by delegation-level talks in Islamabad, the US envoy also separately met with Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and other officials
