Morocco urges OIC member states to resolve differences thru dialogue

RABAT: Morocco has called upon the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation member states to leave their differences apart and work to resolve these through dialogue.

This came during the speech of Habib El Malki, President of the Moroccan House of Representatives (first chamber of the parliament), at the opening of the 14th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) in the Rabat. The session will last for four days, with the participation of Turkey.

El Malki said: “We must leave the controversial issues aside and resolve differences with dialogue and conviction. The OIC, which embodies the will of the people, must follow the methodology of persuasion and internal dialogue to work out and overcome differences.

El Malki pointed out that Islamic countries were facing unprecedented challenges with a severity intensified by regional and international contexts, amid the member states people’s growing aspirations to enjoy social and economic rights, stability and dignity.

“The conference is being held amid a very complicated international situation, dominated by strife, conflicts, tyranny, and exclusion,” said PUIC Secretary-General, the Senegalese Mohamed Khouraichi Niass.

He added: “Muslims around the world are facing the challenges of the unjust world order.”

Niass continued: “Everyone is aware of the maltreatment of Muslims, which requires our unity to defend our just causes.”

The PUIC was established on 17 June 1999. It is based in the Iranian capital Tehran and has currently 54 member countries.
