Pakistan announces to release captured Indian pilot as ‘peace gesture’

ISLAMABAD:  Prime Minister Imran Khan while addressing the joint session of the parliament convened to discuss Indian aggression against Pakistan announced to release captured Indian pilot

Before the opposition leader takes the floor, Prime Minister Imran Khan apologises for cutting in, saying he wishes to announce that the Indian pilot captured by Pakistan Air Force a day earlier will be released tomorrow as a ‘peace gesture.’

“In our desire for peace, I announce that tomorrow, and as a first step to open negotiations, Pakistan will be releasing the Indian Air Force officer in our custody,” PM Khan said. The Prime Minister announcement was greeted with near unanimous support in the parliament.

PM Khan cautioned that the situation should not “get out of hand” otherwise “Pakistan will have to retaliate”.

Speaking on ‘war hysteria’ across the border, PM Khan said “I’m afraid there might be a miscalculation”.

“Countries are ruined because of miscalculation. War is not a solution. If India takes any action, we will have to retaliate.”

The prime minister reiterates that talks over Kashmir are important.

“I have a feeling that the Indian public does not agree with the current government’s warmongering. If their media had seen what our media has seen over the past 17 years, they would not have created this war hysteria.”

PM Khan said that although India had blamed suicide attacks on Islamic radicalism, it was a common tactic employed by Hindu fighters belonging to the Tamil Tigers prior to 9/11.

“They weren’t doing it because of their religion. Suicide attacks are a weapon of the weak. They are done out of desperation,” the PM said.

He added that India had blamed Pakistan for the attack without proof. “Shouldn’t they be asking why a 19-year-old agreed to become a human bomb?” he asked, referring to the video of the Kashmiri youth who had claimed responsibility for the Pulwama attack.
