Hajj policy approved: Govt not to extend any subsidy on Hajj this year

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet on Thursday decided not to extend subsidy on Hajj to the intending pilgrims.

The cabinet approved the Hajj policy 2019.

The meeting of federal cabinet was held here with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair. The meeting decided that this year there will be one supervisor for the entire Hajj operation who will be monitored personally by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The Prime Minister issued directives to fully facilitate the pilgrims warning that any leniency in this regard will not be tolerated.

The cabinet was told that 184,210 Pakistanis would perform Hajj this year. Applications would be accepted from 20 February, and 60 per cent of the quota would be given to the government and the remaining to private operators.

It was told that as per the policy, people 80 years or above will be able to perform Hajj without participating in the draw.

As the government decided against giving subsidy on Hajj, the Hajj package for the northern zone would be Rs436,975 and for the southern zone would be Rs427,975.

The cabinet also approved the new Visa policy. During the meeting, the cabinet was briefed on the new visa relaxation policy by the interior secretary.

Under the new policy, citizens of 50 countries will be given visa-on-arrival in Pakistan and e-visa facility will be provided to several other countries. The cabinet was briefed that under the new policy, Pakistan would relax visas for 190 countries.
