TUNIS: A court in Tunisia rejected a law suit filed by Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi against a Tunisian citizen for what he said inciting people against him.
The suit was filed back in 2014.
Local media reported that the Tunisian judiciary ordered Essebsi to pay fine of litigation after losing the case against Imad Deghij, who was known as the Head of the League for Protecting the Revolution.
Initially, Essebsi moved to the Public Prosecution at the Trial Court in the Tunisian capital Tunis, saying that the respondent had posted videos and comments on social media which are inciting hatreds against him and his family.
The Trial Court sentenced Deghij to three months in prison and a fine, but he was given an opportunity to appeal against the sentence.
Last week, the Court of Appeal in Tunis acquitted the defendant, fined Essebsi and ordered him to pay the litigation charges.
The acquittal verdict was hailed widely in the country.
