ISLAMABAD: The families of Sahiwal ‘encounter’ victims will appear before the Senate Standing Committee on Interior today in Islamabad.
The Senate Standing Committee on Interior will meet to discuss the gruesome murder of three members of a family and their driver in an alleged encounter by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials in Sahiwal.
On January 19, four people — including three members of the Khalil family — were killed in an alleged encounter in Sahiwal. Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel said they had killed a local commander of militant organization Daesh and three others in the operation.
However, the CTD claimed proved wrong in a subsequent probe conducted by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT). Â The cold-blooded murders stir an uproar in the country following which the Senate Committee took notice of the incident.
The committee has decided to record the statements of the victims’ family members.
On Tuesday morning, the families of the victim left for Islamabad to appear before the committee. Talking to media before leaving for Islamabad the victims’ family members expressed dissatisfaction over the probe being carried out by the joint investigation team.
They demanded a judicial commission be formed to investigate the killings.
