Bol TV, Express News banned from covering events at National Press Club

ISLAMABAD: The National Press Club (NPC) has barred Bol TV and Expres sNews from covering any event or press conference held at the club.

The decision was taken after non-payment of salaries for four months by Bol TV despite the directives of the Supreme Court and large-scale layoffs by the Express media group.

Recently, Daily Express has terminated about 30 employees.

NPC President Shakeel Qarar and Secretary Anwar Raza said in a statement said that despite the Supreme Court order, BOL TV administration did not pay salaries to the staff for the last four months. They added that the channel had not cleared the dues of those employees who quit the channel.

They said that with one stroke of a pen, the Express Group sacked 30 workers, although the organization was earning profits.

During a press conference by senior PML-N leadership at NPC, the officer-bearers removed mics of both the channels.

The NP office-bearers urged the management of daily Ummat, Nawa-i-Waqt, Khabrain, INP, NNI, and others to pay the salaries of the staff or face legal action.

They also warned Geo TV management to release the four months pending salary to the workers. They urged the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) and the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (ANPS) to take immediate measures for the betterment of workers and warned that in case of their failure, the workers would be compelled to take to the streets and lay siege to media houses.
