Police Reforms: Sindh govt given six weeks for legislation

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Thursday gave the provincial government six weeks time to make new legislation for police reforms in the province.

The court was hearing a contempt of court petition against the provincial authorities for not making legislation for police reforms despite the court’s order.

Advocate General Salman Talibuddin appeared in the court and informed the bench that a draft of new police laws was prepared and sent to the provincial cabinet for approval.

He added that a six weeks’ time is required to approve the draft from the Assembly.

Upon this, the bench allowed the six weeks’ time to the government for the legislation.

Earlier, the petitioner counsel told the court that the government authorities had not filed replies on the petition despite the passage of one and half year.
