Mobile phones prices set to go up by Rs20,000/set

ISLAMABAD: The prices of mobile phones are set to go up by upto Rs20,000 per set with the increase of import duty and other taxes.

The government has raised the import duty on mobile phones from 15 percent to 44-52 percent.

Karachi Electronic Dealers Association (KEDA) said that the duties, general sales tax (GST), levy, and income tax rates on the imports of mobile phones were revised upwards.

Besides the revision of duty, a condition of Type Approval has also been imposed on the import of used mobile phones.

KEDA President Muhammad Rizwan said that the latest upward revision of duties and taxes on imported mobiles will lead to jack up prices of mobile phones by as much as Rs20,000 per set.
