US police arrest female Journalist working for Iran Press TV

TEHRAN:  Iran state-run English language Press TV said that US police have arrested an American-born female journalist working for the broadcaster.

The state-run broadcaster said that the charges against the journalists are not yet specified.

Press TV said Marziyeh Hashemi was arrested at St. Louis Lambert International Airport on Sunday. It said that the journalist was sent to police custody in Washington DC.

It added no formal charges have been framed against the reporter.

Police or Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has not yet commented on the arrest.

Hashemi was in the United States to visit her family, the broadcaster said. It added that the detained journalist was allowed to call her daughter two days after her arrest.

According to Press TV, Hashemi was born as Melanie Franklin in the United States and changed her name after converting to Islam.

She was quoted as saying by Press TV that she had been prevented from observing the Islamic dress code, hijab, in prison, and she was only offered pork as a meal, which is prohibited in Islam.
