SC rejects Sindh govt petition over hospitals’ ownership under 18th Amendment

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the Sindh government’s petition regarding the ownership of some hospitals transferred to the province under the 18th Constitutional Amendment.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case.  The chief justice in a short order dismissed the Sindh government’s plea.

Reasons for the dismissal of the plea will be given in the detailed verdict the apex court will issue later.

The Sindh government had filed a plea in the Supreme Court pertaining to provincial authority over some hospitals, which were transferred to the province under the 18th Constitutional Amendment.

The 18th Constitutional Amendment was passed on April 8, 2010, which devolved many departments including health to the provinces.

During a previous hearing of the case, the bench had rejected Senator Raza Rabbani’s, counsel of Sindh government and architect of the 18th amendment, plea for the constitution of a larger bench to hear the case.
