PM Laptop Scheme: Another U-turn of PTI and Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf remained engaged in a vitriolic attack on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government’s development projects and initiatives from 2013 to 2018 when it was in the opposition. One of the chief targets of the PTI’s criticism was the Metro Bus project and the laptop distribution scheme among students of universities and colleges in the country.

The PTI has been saying that the metro bus project was a wastage of national resources and a garb to mint money and pocket kickbacks. But the party took a U-turn even before Imran Khan’s glorification of U-turn as a trademark of a great leader in the fourth year of its rule in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The party initiated Metro Bus, a project it relentlessly opposed for four longs year, in Peshawar in 2017.

The PTI used to dub the PML-N government’s laptop distribution scheme as a political bribe to youth in a bid to buy their loyalties.  However, PTI also took a U-turn on the laptop scheme too as the Prime Minister Imran Khan is going to lunch phase-V of a scheme.

On January 18, Prime Minister Laptop Distribution Ceremony 2019 will be held at a  public sector university.

The banner regarding the launch of the 5th phase of the Prime Minister laptop scheme with Imran Khan’s picture on it has gone viral on social media.  It provided the social media trolls as an opportunity to attack the PTI government and Prime Minister Imran Khan for the somersault the party is taking on different issues and promises.

A central leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and former Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal also shared the banners along with a previous tweet sent out from PTI’s official twitter handle. The tweet sent out from PTI’s official twitter account when PML-N was in power, opposed the laptops distribution among students.

The tweet states: “We won’t provide laptops but train our youths with computer programming and equip them with necessary skills @ImranKhanPTI #Sardhoda4PTI”

Ahsan Iqbal wrote on his Facebook wall: “ A proverb goes ‘think before you speak’. Imran Khan opposed tooth and nail the PML-N government’s scheme to pave the way for a digital revolution by distributing laptops among the youth, but now adopted it. Another U-turn.”
