ISLAMABAD: United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) President Maria Fernanda Espinosa will arrive in Pakistan next week.
The UN General Assembly’s President is touring the region for the first time after assuming office in September 2018.
A spokesman of the UNGA President said that the President of the General Assembly will travel to Pakistan from the 18 to 22 January at the invitation of the Government of Pakistan.
“This will be the first official visit to the Asia-Pacific region by the President of the UN General Assembly since Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa took office,” the spokesperson said.
The United Nation’s Information Centre said in a statement on Friday that Espinosa was “Looking forward to strengthening the ties between Pakistan and the UN, promoting multilateralism and continuing my work with Pakistan on the priorities for the 73rd Session of the GA (General Assembly)”.
Espinosa will meet with Prime Minister Imran Khan, President Arif Alvi, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, as well as representatives of the UN, civil society and women’s organisations.
