Anchorperson Ghareeda Farooqi does not know what PPRA Stands for!

ISLAMABAD: TV anchorperson Ghareeda Farooqi on Wednesday appeared before a Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar relating to a suo motu notice over her talk show.

During the hearing of the matter, an interesting chat took place between the bench and the anchorperson.

A member of the bench, Justice Ejazul Ahsan, asked Ghareeda as to what PPRA (Public Procurement Regulatory Authority) stood for. However, the anchorperson failed to answer the question.

The anchorperson’s apparent ignorance of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority stirred loud laughter among those present in the courtroom number one.

Upon this Justice Ejazul Ahsan questioned as to who did research for her programme. The anchorperson replied that she had a dedicated research team for the programme.

The CJP asked the journalist to inform the bench which section of PPRA was violated in the award of the Mohmand Dam contract to DESCON.

The CJP asked the anchorperson as to what she wanted. “Do you want that dam should not be constructed?” the CJP commented.

The bench said that the court will serve show cause notice to the private TV channel. The CJP remarked that the license of GNN, with which Ghareeda is associated, should be revoked first, so they hire a competent research team.

The Supreme Court had taken suo motu notice of the anchorperson’s programme on GNN TV regarding the award of Mohmand Dam’s contract.
