ISLAMABAD: The first Pakistani women’s cricketer to top ICC’s ODI Bowling Rankings, Sanar Mir, says that if she can become world number one bowler, any girl in Pakistan who put in hard work and is true to the game do that in any sport.
Mir’s video, who turned 33, was posted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on its Facebook page with the caption of ‘inspirational words from Sana Mir’.
“If I can achieve this No.1 ranking, any girl in Pakistan who puts in hard work and is true to the game can do that in any sport,” Mir said in the video.
She said that the number one ranking is important for her, as it will give a lot of confidence to young girls in the country.
“There has been a debate in Pakistan whether Pakistani girls are good enough to take the sport as a career. So this should end the debate about whether girls should play cricket or any other sport or not. So, if I can achieve this No.1 ranking, any girl in Pakistan who puts in hard work and is true to the game can do that in any sport.”
Last year, the veteran all-rounder performed well in the 2017–20 ICC Women’s Championship.
As a result of her performances, she had ascended to the summit of ICC’s new ODI rankings with 663 points to her name.
The honour earned Sana widespread acclaim, including that from the Government of Pakistan.
