ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has given approval to place 172 people named in the report of the joint investigation team (JIT) in the fake bank accounts case including PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on the exit control list (ECL).

Federal Information Minister Fawad Chauhdry while addressing a press conference after the cabinet meeting said that hopefully now the opposition will take the accountability process seriously.

He added that he had heard Asif Zardari saying did not take JIT seriously. Now he will take it seriously and will realize the seriousness of this inquiry, he added.

Chaudhry explained that the decision was taken because “this money belongs to the people of Pakistan.”

Regarding former MQM MNA Ali Raza Abid’s murder, he said that Altaf Hussain was issuing instruction to kill people while sitting in the UK.

He said that the issue will be taken up with UK authorities.

“The situation has deteriorated suddenly,” the minister said. “The death of Ali Raza Abidi shows that some gangs have become active again. Karachi’s peace is linked with Pakistan’s economy so we will never allow Karachi’s peace to be sabotaged like this again.”
