Careem expands its services to Sudan

KHARTOUM: Careem has launched operations in Khartoum as it expands services into a 14th country.

Careem’s mission is dual fold, to both simplify the lives of people and to build a lasting institution that inspires. With the move into Khartoum, the company is aiming to further its mission to the people and economy of Sudan. Customers can book both on-demand and scheduled rides using the Careem app and the vehicle types will comprise a range of licensed private air-conditioned cars.

CEO Mudassir Sheikha said: “We are thrilled to have launched our services in Khartoum, and are able to create various business opportunities, job creation and mobility also help improve the transportation sector. Khartoum is a starting point and we are planning to soon launch our services across other cities in Sudan, and we encourage regional startups, small business and entrepreneurs to invest in Sudan.”

Emerging Markets Managing Director at Careem, Ibrahim Manna adds: “Our platform is going to bring a new standard of safety for ride hailing in Sudan, with robust screening of captains and our emphasis on their safety and wellbeing is just an example of how much we invest in making our ecosystem one that is desirable for all parties.

“Customers benefit from the measures taken to make their rides comfortable with all cars air conditioned, convenient with our seamless in app experience and with fast and human customer care via our call centre and social channels. We are excited to start training our captains and to show them the Careem way of looking after customers and playing our role in job creation and mobility here in Khartoum.”

Careem will bring about its safety and security measures with the rigorous pre-screening of new captains as standard procedure. Customers can feel reassured that all captains driving for Careem will be of sound character, with no previous criminal records and with a clean driving license. Every year Careem invests upwards of USD2 million on safety measures to protect both customers and captains on the platform through new technologies as well as through physical areas such as roadside assistance and vehicle inspections.

As part of Careem’s commitment to providing leading customer and captain care, a call centre catering for both parties will be available starting next month open for queries that occur during and after a ride. Captains will be able to drop into their local Captain Care Centre for any areas of assistance they might need help with. Captains are put at the heart of Careem operations with initiatives ranging from Captain emergency funds (supported entirely by Careem employees), to negotiating special rates for fuel and health insurance in place across the Careem network of cities.

The Careem app for Android and iOS can be downloaded from today.
