RIYADH: A moon sighting committee was formed to sight the Ramadan 2017 moon in Saudi Arabia, but the no shahadah was received about the moon-sighting.
It was, therefore, announced that the holy month of Ramadan will begin on Saturday, May 27, Saudi Arabia.
Correspondingly, the last day of Ramadan is likely to be June 24, and Eid Al Fitr will be on June 25, subject to moon sighting.
Earlier, the Saudi Supreme Court in its announcement directed all Muslims of the kingdom to look for the Ramadan 2017 moon.
The kingdom has also asked that whoever sights the crescent by naked eyes or through binoculars to report to the nearest court and register his testimony, or report to the authority of the region’s centre in his area where he sighted the crescent to facilitate his reaching the nearest court, according to the Saudi Press Agency, as reported by Samaa News.
If the moon sighted, the Saudi Arabia, UAE and some North African countries will start observing Ramazan from May 26 (Friday).
Whereas, the Ruet-e-Hilal Central Committee of Pakistan has called a meeting for sighting the of Ramadan moon on Friday, May 26.
Mufti Muneeb Ur Rehman will head the meeting.
Meteorological Department forecast slight chance of sighting the new moon on the evening of May 26 i.e. on 29th of Shaban, 1438 AH, with fair/partly cloudy weather expected in most parts of the country on the day.
