ICJ to release verdict on Kulbhushan Jadhav Case on May 18

HAGUE: International Court of Justice (ICJ) will announce its verdict on India’s plea to postpone the execution of Kulbhushan Jadhav, its spy caught in Pakistan, tomrrow on May 18.

ICJ had held its verdict after hearing the both parties on Monday.

A public sitting will take place at 12 noon at the Peace Palace in The Hague, during which Judge Ronny Abraham, President of the Court, will read the Court’s Decision.

The decision will be announced at 3 pm, according to Pakistan Standard Time (PKT).

Kulbhushan was arrested from Balochistan last year while trying to enter Pakistan from Pak-Iran border.

He has confessed financing terror activities in Pakistan.

The hearing of the case was held on May 15, where India and Pakistan presented their arguments in the case pertaining to the death sentence awarded to the Indian spy in Pakistan.

India had instituted proceedings against Pakistan, accusing Pakistan of “egregious violations of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations” in the matter of the detention and trial of an Indian national, Mr. Kulbhushan Sudhir Jadhav.

India had contended that it was not informed of Mr. Jadhav’s detention until long after his arrest and that Pakistan failed to inform the accused of his rights. It further alleged that, in violation of the Vienna Convention, the authorities of Pakistan are denying India its right of consular access to Mr. Jadhav, despite its repeated requests.

India, in its application, also claimed that it learned about the death sentence against Mr. Jadhav from a press release.
