Hajj 2017: Sardar Muhammad Yousaf Saudi Arabia to increase Hajj quota

ISLAMABAD – Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf has requested Saudi Arabia to increase Pakistan’s Hajj quota by next year.

The minister held a meeting with his Saudi Counterpart in Jeddah on Tuesday and put forward his demand.

During the meeting, the Minister urged Saudi Arabia to increase Pakistan’s Hajj quota to 1,5000 more pilgrims.
At present, the quota for Pakistan is 1,79,210.

Pakistan Hajj 2017 Arrangements

He said keeping in view number of the pilgrims, 540 personnel of hajj medical mission, 450 personnel of assistants pilgrims, 270 personnel of seasonal staff of the ministry and welfare staff comprised of Pakistani local assistants will be deployed as per requirement.

This year 107,526 Pakistanis will perform hajj officially, whereas, 71,684 people will undertake pilgrimage through private tour groups. The government and the private Hajj operators will facilitate 60/40 percent ratio of Pakistani pilgrims.

Hajj Application Eligibility Criteria

He said that every person will be able to perform hajj once within every seven years, adding that private applicants will be eligible for the holy journey after five years.

Muhammad Yousaf laid out that no person would be sent on the pilgrimage free-of-cost.

He also said that the people who had performed Hajj in the last seven years are not eligible to apply for the reserved government quota. – APP
