First Test: Australia 182/3 on Day 1 dinner

BRISBANE: Despite the fall of his partner Renshaw on 71, Steve Smith stands firm to take Australia  182/3 at Day dinner at The Gabba, Brisbane on Thursday.

Earlier, Australia skipper Steve Smith won the toss and elected to bat first.

The decision was well-backed by his openers as both Dav Warner and Matt Renshaw played their shots all along the ground quite freely.

Starting with a 4-runs-per-over rate, Australian opening duo posted 71 runs in 23 over before Amir removed Warner on 32. He was looking threatening.

New batsman Usman Khawaja welcomed Amir’s next ball with a four on the first ball but ended up handing a sharp catch to skipper Misbah at short mid-wicket on Yasir’s half-volley.

In came the Aussie captain Steve Smith and he, along with Renshaw kept the head low to see off few more overs before the end of the first session.

Steve Smith took his time and let his new partner Handscomb settle on the pitch which has now start to reverse a bit as the night comes on.

Reaching his fifty in 93 balls, Smith is currently not out on 54 while his partner Handscomb is on the crease with 16

Australia are 182/3 in 59 overs.
