ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s educational system have never made onto the top of world ranking and have always considered to be not good enough as compared to the foreign institutions. Eventually, a Pakistani university has succeeded to make its place in the list of top 100 Asian universities.
As per Global Education ranking for 2017, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad, ranked at 95 in the list of top Asian universities. QAU is the only Pakistani university which triumphed to the list of top 100.
QAU, keeps its position at 539 in global ranking with the score of 49.1, after de-ranked from 496th position last year. While Agha Khan University ranked 826th position with the score of 39.6.
As compared to the reginal ranking China, Japan, Korea and Singapore continues to keep their position on top of the list.
The top 3 Asian universities are as follows,
- National University of Singapore
- Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
- Perking University, China
There are eleven factors for ranking university which includes;
- Global and regional research reputation
- Publications
- Books
- Conferences
- Normalized citation impact
- Total citations,
- Number of publications which are among 10 percent most cited
- Percentage of total publications that are among the 10 percent most cited,
- International collaboration,
- Number of highly cited papers that are among the top one percent most cited in their respective field,
- Percentage of total publications that are among the top one percent most highly cited papers.
QAU academics and officials maintained that the varsity had triumphed over this distinction despite being financially strapped for persistent budget deficit in the range of Rs. 500-600 million rupees for a long time. Officials added that its PC-1 and development funding by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and government of Pakistan have also been stalled.
