China announces Scholarship Program for QAU students

China has established an Ambassador Scholarship Program with the collaboration of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), which is the first-ever scholarship program of its kind.

The program is especially for underprivileged students to discover diamonds in the rough, who will play a role in Pakistan’s social-economic development.

Sun Weidong, the Chinese Ambassador, inaugurated the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Program for undergraduates at the School of Politics and International Relation (SPIR), Quaid-i-Azam University.

Dr. Jave Ashraf, QUA Vice Chancellor, and Sun Weidong signed the agreement.

The Ambassador also handed over the cheque of $29,500 for the implementation of the scholarship program.

The ceremony was attended by the high number of student of QAU and the faculty member. The ambassador was warmed welcome by Dr. Ihstiaq Ahmad, Director SPIR. Dr. Sayed Wiqar Ali Shah, the Dean of Social Sciences Faculty also attended the ceremony.

Weidong said that this scholarship is the “first of its kind” offered by the Chinese Embassy to the students of Pakistan. Further, he added that each of the ten selected students who would be the part of the M.Phil degree programs would receive an amount of Rs150,000 on need and merit basis.

He explains that this scholarship program aims to provide help to the students who are going through financial difficulties and to empower them to undertake their future studies. The key purpose of the program is that students play their role in the country’s socio-economic development and to take it out of the boundaries of under developing.

Mentioning the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), he said that it raise their amity to a new height.

“This friendship has entered into a new stage of ground development in the form of CPEC under which 17 major projects have been started across the country.  These projects would bring a significant change in the socio-economic development of Pakistan, offering enormous opportunities, fulfilling the dreams of the skilled youth.”

Dr. Ashraf appreciated the Chinese Government for initiating the Ambassador Scholarship Program and correctly choosing QAU for it; he also thanked Weidong’s contribution and commitment to the program.
