KARACHI: Final results of Malir’s constituency of NA-258 by-election has been released.
According to unofficial results, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Abdul Hakeem Baloch has won NA-258 b-election 2016.
PPP’s Abdul Hakeem Baloch secured 80,000 votes while PTI candidate stood second in the race.
Earlier, Abdul Hakeem Baloch contested on this seat for general elections in 2013, as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) and won by 52, 751 votes. The seat lay vacant after he left PML-N to join PPP over differences with the leadership.
Abdul Hakeem Baloch was elected MNA from NA-258 central District Karachi in the general election 2013 on Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) ticket.
But this constituency become vacant due to resignation tendered by Abdul Hakim Baloch from the National Assembly seat.
A total of eleven candidates from various various political parties contested the election. Polling began at 08:00 AM and concluded at 05:00 PM without any interruption.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced the by-election on 22nd November. The poll date later extended to 24th November, due to IDEAS 2016 defence exhibition.
Rangers had been deployed both inside and outside the polling stations during the by-elections. Mobile phones were also restricted from polling stations.
Out of 2287 polling stations, 60 had been declared highly sensitive, while 207 polling stations were regarded sensitive.
