Faisal Raza Abidi cleared in illegal weapon’s case

KARACHI: Former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senator Faisal Raza Abidi has been cleared from the case of possession of illegal weapon on ground that the weapon was not illegal.

The report submitted by Investigation Officer (IO) into magistrate’s court to dismiss the case has been approved, ARY News reported

The IO claimed that the weapon found from Abidi’s house had a permit on his security guard’s name. He said the weapon was not illegal.

Abidi was arrested by law enforcement agencies on November 5 from his house in New Rizvia Society. Police and Rangers took him into custody after carrying out a search operation at his residence.

As per ARY report, judicial magistrate in Malir had sent Abidi to jail on judicial remand till 19th Ntovember. However, a court later approved the bail plea of Abidi on surety bonds of Rs. 50,000.

Law enforcement agencies had registered case against him on charges of carrying an unlicensed SMG (sub-machine gun). He was released from the District Jail after his release order was issued.

Abidi, who was once a close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari, stepped down as the president of PPP Karachi in 2012 and resigned as a senator in 2014 over differences with the party leadership.
