New Zealand Test squad for Pakistan series

WILLINGTON: New Zealand cricket board on Thursday announced squad for the two-match Test series against Pakistan featuring uncapped Auckland players, Jeet Raval and Colin de Grandhomme.

Canterbury’s Todd Astle has also earned a recall.

The squad will assemble in Christchurch on Monday, with the two match Test series commencing from Thursday, November 17.

Martin Guptill, Doug Bracewell, Jeetan Patel, Luke Ronchi and Ish Sodhi have been dropped following the recent tour of India.

Astle played one Test in 2012 against Sri Lanka, while also appearing in two Twenty20s last summer against Pakistan.

De Grandhomme is yet to play a Test, but played in both short formats in 2012, while Raval toured with the Test team to Zimbabwe and South Africa, but is yet to feature for the Black Caps in any format.

Selector Gavin Larsen said Astle and de Grandhomme’s performances spoke for themselves.

“Todd’s been incredibly consistent at the domestic level, having been one of the top four wicket takers in the Plunket Shield for the past three seasons,” said Larsen
