KARACHI: A local court on Thursday granted bail of Faisal Raza Abidi, the former Senator of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), in a case of illegal weapons’ possession.
According to Samaa News, Abidi’s bail application was approved by district and sessions court against a surety bond of Rs.50,000.
A case was registered against him on charges of carrying a SMG (sub-machine gun) without a licence. Abidi was sent to prison on judicial remand until Nov 19.
The court granted him bail and later issued his release order.
Police said Abidi was taken into custody during a raid on his residence in the city’s New Rizvia Society in connection with the killing of two men who were gunned down in Patel Para on Friday.
However, some senior police officials clarified that Abidi was arrested only “for possession of unlicensed weapons.”
