Gunmen attack police academy college in Quetta

QUETTA: a group of unknown gunmen stormed a police academy college in Quetta late Monday night, holding security personnel hostage, SAMAA reported.

UPDATE: A blast has been heard in the area, but no casualty has been reported yet.

A heavy exchange of fire is continued from both sides near the training academy on Sariab Road.

Heavy contingents of police and FC personnel were called in to control the situation.

According to reports reaching here, policemen staying in New Hostel of the academy have been taken hostage by the attackers.

According to reports from IG police on local media, at least three cadets have been taken to hospital after being injured during their escape fro the hostel.

An emergency has been imposed in hospitals across the city.

According to a spokesman Balochistan government, around 300 recruits are undergoing training at the facility.

As per spokesman statement, five to six armed men barged into the academy from back side and went straight to the hostel.

Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri directed police and FC to send more personnel to clear the area.

CM Zehri, while speaking to a local TV channel stated that there was an intelligence report regarding a possible terror attack in the city, and the security was high alert.

He further stated that the situation is quite under control, however if required, Army may be called in to take control of the situation.

Sanaullah Zehri further mentioned that the Police Training Centre (PCT) is located outside the city near Saryab area.

In response to a question he said one part of the PCT is attached to a mountain, that is where attackers might have broken in from.
