Pakistan thump Windies in second ODI, seal series 2-0

SHARJAH: Pakistan seal the ODI series 2-0 as the beat West Indies in the second ODI by 59 runs in at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah.

Pakistan skipper Azhar Ali won the toss and elected to bat first.

Taking full advantage of the current form and flat batting wicket, Pakistan began to score at brisk rate, they were 40/4.4 overs.

Pakistan lost 2 quick wickets in 3 balls as Azhar Ali (9) and Sharjil Khan (24) returned to pavilion, leaving two new batsmen on the crease.

Babar Azam and Malik played carefully in first couple of overs after the wicket fall, but then played their shot all around the ground, piling up a 169-run partnership on 171 ball for the third wicket.

Malik departed for 90, and Sarfraz was the new man joining them in the middle.

The pair then added quick 73 runs on just 69 balls before Babar Azam fell after his second consecutive hundred as he miscued a shot to fall on 123 off 126 balls. His splendid innings was studded with 9 fours and one big sixer.

After his departure, Sarfraz Ahmed took the charge and began hitting Windies bowlers around the park.

With a late cameo from Sarfraz who eventually ended up scoring 60 off 47 balls, Pakistan posted 337/5 in their innings.

West Indies in reply lost Jonson Charles very early, but, didn’t collapse like the first ODI. Kraig Brathwaite and Bravo batted so well to put up a 89-run partnership for second wicket on 118 balls.

Brathwaite threw his wicket trying to steal a single in the circle. He went for 39. Bravo took the charge on Pakistani bowlers and completed his 50 by hitting a gigantic six to Muhammad Nawaz. But, he was  a little unlucky and fell prey of a brilliant run out by Hasan on his own bowling. Bravo was out for his 51, leaving West Indies 127 for 3.

Ramdin and Samuels built up a partnership slowly, but then began to take on Pakistan bowlers.

Both added a valuable 67-run parntership on just 53 balls, giving their team a hope in the game. But, Wahab’s pace proved too god for them, as removed both Ramdin (34) and Samules (57) in consecutive overs.

He then did a brilliant run out to castle Carlos Brathwaite for 16, putting West Indies completely out of the game.

Imad then removed out of form Pollard for 22 in 49th over. West Indies were restricted to 278/7 in 50 overs.

Pakistan won it by 59 runs in the end.

Babar Azam was chose Man of the Match again for his consecutive hundred in the series.
