SHARJAH: Brilliant Babar Azam’s heroic innings of 120 runs off 131 ball set up big win for Pakistan in the first ODI of the three-match series at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
The young gun had to face the very second ball of the match as skipper Azhar Ali departed for nought on first ball from Gabriel.
Absorbing the pressure, Babar started off carefully and held up his shots until Pakistan reached 50. Sharjil Khan was hitting big, so he kept rotating the strike.
He not only played a gem of a knock of his career, but also provided long stands, Pakistan required to set a good target.
He was involved in two vital partnerships, first one with Sharjil, an 82-run stand off 86 balls for the second wicket. Then, with Sarfraz Ahmed, 99-runs stand off 104 balls.
His 171-minute-long innings of 120 runs was studded with 3 humongous sixes and 8 classical boundaries.
Azam was chosen Man Of The Match for his remarkable performance.
