Shahid Afridi taking retirement from T20I cricket

KARACHI: Legendary Pakistan cricketer and former Pakistan T20 captain, Shahid Khan Afridi has finally decided to call it a day during the upcoming West Indies series.

According to sources privy to with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the board has decided to take ‘forced- retirement’ from the star cricketer by giving him a farewell match in the West Indies T20s.

PTVSports.net reported via its sources in national selection committee that Afridi established contact for a farewell match in the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies in United Arab Emirates.

Moreover, Geo News has reported that PCB has forced 36-year-old to call it a quit and the offer of farewell match was also made by the board.

The star all-rounder had earlier announced to take retirement after WT20, but he only resigned from the captaincy after failing in Asia Cup T20 and WT20.

Lately, during an exhibition match last week, former skipper reiterated his desire to represent the national side in shorter format once again.

“I am currently focusing on performing in domestic and county cricket,” he said. “However, when I feel I cannot play anymore, I will retire on my own terms rather than allowing anyone to throw me out.”

Boom Boom represented Pakistan in 98 T20Is, claiming 97 wickets and scoring 1405 runs at an average of over 18. He captained the national team in 43 matches in the shortest format of the game, winning 19 and losing 23.
