KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has taken a narrow lead over MQM candidate in the by-election of PS-127, Malir, Karachi, initial and unofficial results show.
According to results obtained from 38 polling stations, PPP candidate Ghulam Murtaza Baloch has bagged 6836 votes followed by MQM’s Wasim Ahmed, who is second with over 4000 votes.
Majlis Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen (MWM) in third in the race.
Vote counter is under way after daylong polling.
Senator Saeed Ghani, a PPP leader, said that his party has comprehensive lead.
Speaking to media persons, MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar was confident that his party would retain their provincial assembly seat.
The Sindh Assembly seat fell vacant after Ashfaq Mangi quit the MQM and joined Pak Sarzameen Party formed by former Karachi mayor Syed Mustafa Kamal.
