Oval: Younis keeps Pakistan high on Day 3 lunch

LONDON: With Younis 147 not out, Pakistan ended first session of Day 3 of Oval Test at ease as they have 89 runs lead on board with a solid batsman still on crease.

Veteran batsman opened third day processions with wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz (17). Younis was 101 not out.

Cloud-covered morning kept Younis quite until the ball got a bit older.

Sarfraz had scored 44 before he went back to the pavilion, edging one of Woakes’ tight, offstump-line delivery. Bairstow was very sharp to grab the ball from first slip.

This was the only wicket England could manage in the first session. However, they kept a lid on run rate.

Younis, at the lunch, was 147*, whereas Wahab Riaz has only take one single so far from 25 balls he faced bravely.

Earlier, Asad Shafiq brilliant hundred, ninth of Test career had given Pakistan batting a stability they had lost during Old Trafford and Edgbaston battles.

The 30-year-old scored 109 runs in 179 balls with 12 fours and two sixes.

Pakistan are 417/7 at Day 3 lunch.
