ISLAMABAD: Currently, the extension in Army Chief General Raheel Sharif’s term has been one of biggest the dilemma for government.
But, sources privy to PM House have told TheNewsTribe.com that the government has finally decided not to award Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif with an extension in his term.
He would be decorated with an honorary rank of “Field Marshal”, the biggest in many armed forces.
Senior journalist Arif Nizami was quoted by Pakistan Today while saying that the decision had been taken by the civilian leadership after taking the army chief into confidence.
“However, it has been decided in principle that the army chief will not be given an extension in his service. Rather, the new army chief will be appointed on schedule,” he added.
Nizami maintained in his talk show DNA that Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif may retires as COAS, but he would continue providing his services in one form or another.
He said that due to his great services to the country, he may also render his services for an anti-terrorism role, such as being made an “anti-terrorism tsar.”
Earlier, back in January 2016, noted Defence Analyst, Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi had maintained that the current Army Chief will not take any extension in his term and would rather retire with honour.
