Rio 2016: Pele cannot light Olympic Cauldron

Brazilian Football legend Pele will be unable to light the can the Olympic Cauldron in opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio Games, going underway Friday.

Pele was expected on the ceremony, but a spokesman confirmed he cannot attend the opening ceremony due to poor health.

Opening ceremony of Rio 2016 Games will be held at the Maracana Stadium, which will host the Olympics athletics events.

However, his spokesman confirmed just a few hours before the ceremony that the Pele has denied to light the flame due to his ill health.

The 75-years-old legend has recently undergone hip surgery.

Pele, who was invited by ceremony organizers to light the Olympic Cauldron on Wednesday, was already feared to not attend the ceremony due to his fragile health.
