BIRMINGHAM: No matter what critics had been saying at the beginning of the day, Misbah ul Haq and the company proved to be on the right side, as they bowled out in-form England for 297 in the first innings of third Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Pakistan skipper Misbah ul Haq won the toss and elected to bat first.
The decision was widely criticised by Cricket Experts. But Misbah and the company went to on prove what the skipper had said in the presser earlier.
They went after the batting pillars of English team, Cook and Root. They had them, they had the team out under 300.
Sohail Khan went on to emerge on top of the bowling lineup. His five-for on the comeback Test after five years, made him look special among likes of Yasir Shah and Mohammad Amir.
Rahat Ali was the other man to look for. Though, he leaked some runs, but I think that was the plan given to him. He took the key wicket of Cook and then in-form Woakes.
Amir looked a little rusty in the first session, but bowled fairly well in other two session, bagging two wickets for 53 runs.
Yasir Shah, however, once again failed to create an impact of his own. He took one wicket, the key wicket of Ballance that helped Pakistan to wrap it up earlier than England’s wishes.
Ballance (70) and Moin Alee (63) other than Alastair Cook’s 45 from the top helped England post 297 in the first innings. Not the worst of its kind, but not intimidating either.
Pakistan are yet to bat, the processions for the second day of Edgbaston Test will begin today at 3 p.m. PST and 11 a.m. GMT.
