12 killed as bus runs into truck in Jamshoro

HYDERABAD: At least 12 people died on the spot, while 20 other severely injured as Karachi-bound bus collide with a truck Tuesday near the Thermal Power Station in Jamshoro district, reported TheNewsTribe.com.

Women and children are also among injured people, while death toll is feared to rise.

The accident occurred as the bus, traveling from Dera Ismail Khan to Karachi, overspeeding, ran into a stationery truck near Petaro, on Indus Highway.

Some of the injured were shifted to Liaquat University Hospital in Hyderabad.

A similar accident took place back in May this year, when a speedy bus overturned, taking ten lives on the spot on the same highway.

Poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving are cited as common reasons behind accidents in Pakistan.

More than 4,600 people were killed in road traffic accidents in 2013, which is the last year the government released official data on the matter.
