PTI and PPP Need To Suck It Up! – By Haider Rifaat

Politics is not my cup of tea; however given my limited exposure and knowledge of how Pakistan works politically, I would like to offer my point of view. As Pakistanis, we have continually bore the brunt of Imran Khan’s lackluster speeches over the past years that target the opposing party, PML-N each time. While many agree with him, I believe that it is silly and ludicrous of him, and many other parties to question the current government for being incompetent and treacherous. This is not how politics works.

In a recent speech, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari blamed the Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif for being ignorant in terms of creating friendly ties with other states and rebuilding foreign policy. The monotonous blame game continues, nonetheless. But in the end, I have one thing to say to both PTI and PPP; SUCK IT UP! Perhaps Bilawal Bhutto Zardari should revisit his recent speech and shed some light on his family’s political fiasco in the past. I am not saying that people are not supposed to share their views on national television or print media; however, despite knowing that an opposing party is leading the nation, PTI and PPP should also discuss or at least mention a few points in favor of PML-N.

I neither stand by PML-N nor endorse its agenda. As a nation, it is incredibly important to embrace the positive aspects of Pakistan and overlook a few.  What bothers me the most, however are some of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s remarks directed at Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He questions his credibility and labels him a ‘businessman’ for a political leader of Pakistan. Similarly, Imran Khan has gone about on national television and done the same. I can understand Khan’s case though. He has had a problem with PML-N since the very beginning. Perhaps, Imran Khan needs to accept that he lost.

Although Bilawal’s speech was unconvincing in many ways, I did agree with him on one point; we need to appoint a foreign minister for Pakistan. That is the only way we can have a constructive foreign policy and build ties with other states. Why is it so hard? Let me be very clear that our Prime Minister is no saint either! He is taking advantage of the healthcare system which should have been considered for Pakistan in the first place. He travels constantly and comes up with no robust solution for the current problems that Pakistan continues to face.

Thus, I implore all political parties to be a bit more supportive of each other, for once! Pakistan has so much to offer to its people. It is all about finding the right leader who is smart, intelligent, rational and logical! Pakistan is over these ruthless, money-hungry lunatics who have taken Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s slogan ‘Unity, Faith & Discipline’ for granted.
