MANCHESTER: Pakistan left-arm paceman Mohammad Amir has opened his account of wickets with a beautiful, fast in-swinging delivery that ripped through Alex Hales defence and hit the timber on the first day of Old Trafford Test.
ESPNcricinfo commentator defines this ball as: “What a cracking delivery this was, full and swooping back on Hales to shatter his stumps and send Amir off on that familiar arms-spread celebratory gallop. Bit of a Khyber Pass between Hales’ bat and pad but it was still pretty scintillating stuff.”
Earlier, England captain Alastair Cook won the toss and elected to bat first, probably to Stokes.
England 1 Alastair Cook (capt), 2 Alex Hales, 3 Joe Root, 4 James Vince, 5 Gary Ballance, 6 Ben Stokes, 7 Jonny Bairstow (wk), 8 Moeen Ali, 9 Chris Woakes, 10 Stuart Broad, 11 James Anderson.
Pakistan 1 Mohammad Hafeez, 2 Shan Masood, 3 Azhar Ali, 4 Younis Khan, 5 Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), 6 Asad Shafiq, 7 Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), 8 Wahab Riaz, 9 Mohammad Amir, 10 Rahat Ali, 11 Yasir Shah.
