PakTurk schools, colleges deny links with Fethullah Gulen

KARACHI: PakTurk International Schools and Colleges in Pakistan rejected Turkish media reports that it has affiliation with Fethullah Gulen or his group, which is being accused by Turkey of masterminding a failed attempt to oust Recep Tayyip Erdogan from power on Friday.

The rebuttal comes a day after a section of social media and Turkish media accused the private chain of educational institutes of brainwashing Pakistani students against the Turkish regime under supervision of Gulen Movement.

The Daily Sabah, a Turkish daily, reported that relations between Islamabad and Ankara could get tense because of PakTurk Schools and colleges.

It further said Erdogan has repeatedly requested Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to shut down the group-affiliated 21 schools.

Gulenists have an influential network in Pakistan in the form of schools, colleges, likeminded groups and big business companies, the daily alleged.

Pakistan strongly supported the Turkish government during the coup attempt and social media initiated an interesting trend in support of the democratic government in Turkey and against the coup.

In a press notice, PakTurk International Schools and Colleges in Pakistan categorically denied having any affiliation with Gulen Movement.

“We are deeply concerned by allegations made by a certain section in the social media trying to connect the PakTurk International Schools and Colleges in Pakistan with Mr. Fethullah Gülen or the political movement ascribed to him in wake of the recent unfortunate and reprehensible events in Turkey,” the notice said.
