Waseem Akhter, Anis Qaimkhani arrested in Dr Asim case

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Waseem Akhter and Rauf Siddqui whereas, Pak Sarzameen Party’s (PSP) co-founder Anis Qaimkhani has been arrested from anti-terrorism court,Karachi.

The development came when the judge rejected the bail for MQM and PSP senior leaders.

The bail of Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Qadir Patel was also rejected, however he managed to flee the scene after hearing the ruling.

Interior minister Sindh, Sohail Anwer Siyal has ordered police to arrest Patel and produce before court as soon as possible.

Tension prevailed as doors of the court were closed amid heavy deployment of police and Rangers.

Reports said the politicians would now be shifted to police station.

The accused were on bail after the court had issued their non-bailable arrest warrants last year, declaring them absconders in a terrorism-related case registered against former federal minister and PPP leader Dr Asim Hussain.

Dr Asim Hussain has been booked in several FIRs for allegedly treating and harbouring terrorists, gangsters and activists of banned militant outifits at the North Nazimabad and Clifton branches of his hospital at the behest of political leaders.

He has also been indicted in a local accountability court for Rs.460bn corruption.
