PARIS: The time has come; the biggest match of the year is on our head as Portugal face the host nation France in Euro 2016 Final for the glory.
Portugal looking for their first European cup, while France aim for their third, both teams will face each other on 10th of July for the final showdown.
This will be the fourth meeting between Portugal and France in a major tournament. The French have won the previous three, all in semi-finals (Euro1984, Euro 2000, World Cup 2006).
Portugal was so close to winning their first title in 2004 that too as an host nation, but in the final, the underdogs Greece outclassed them and had their name on the trophy for the very first time, after that Portugal came close in 2012 but knocked out by Spain on penalties in semi final, one match short from the final and now in 2016, they are in the final as they were in 2004, under the leadership of Cristiano Ronaldo who is leading them from the front.
Portugal are unbeaten in their 13 competitive fixtures under Fernando Santos (winning nine and drawing four). Eight of those nine wins were decided by a single goal.
France has already won the competition twice before this, in 1984 and 2000, in 1984 they won the tournament under the leadership of their current manager Didier Deschamps and now he is managing the same team which he won them the prestigious cup.
France are unbeaten in their last 18 major tournament games played on home soil, winning 16 and drawing two.
Only Germany and Spain (three each) have won more European Championships than France (two).
France are the top scorers at euro 2016 with 13 goals in six games. They had not netted that many in a major tournament since Euro 2000 (13).
Griezmann has scored/assisted more goals than any other player at EURO 2016 (6 goals, 2 assists). He has the opportunity to become the third French player to finish as sole top scorer at a major tournament after Just Fontaine (World Cup 1958) and Platini (1984).
And with the current form of France as they knocked the World Champions Germany out in semi final, they are the clear favourite for the final, but still you never know what’s gonna happen next in football.
