LAHORE: Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairman Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman on Tuesday announced that Shawal crescent has been sighted in the different parts of the country so Eid al-Fitr 2016 will be on July 6.
The meeting of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee under the chairmanship of Mufti Munib ur Rehman met today (Tuesday), July 5.
The central committee meeting was held in Pakistan’s largest city Karachi at the building of Pakistan Meteorological Department on Tuesday in Karachi, along-with Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta for the Shawwal moon sighting.
Members of the central and Karachi Ruet-e-Hilal committees, officials of the Met Department and Space, and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) experts will also be present on the occasion.
Services from Pakistan Meteorological Department will also take for making final decision of Shawwal moon sighting.
The Director General of the Pakistan Meteorological Department has already announced that Eid al-Fitr 2016 in Pakistan is likely to fall on July 6.
Speaking to Media, DG Met Dr Ghulam Rasool said that the moon is expected to appear on 29th of Ramadan for forty (40) minutes. The moon will be first sighted at Balochistan’s coastal areas including Pasni and Jiwani and in Sindh’s plan areas of Hyderabad.
According to the sources, Moon Sighting Committee has received many evidences from Lahore, Sanghar, Gujranwala, Multan, Faisalabad and Lower Dir.
