TORONTO: Eid al-Fitr 2016 in Canada is likely to fall on July 6, based on astronomical predictions, TheNewsTribe.com reported.
The charity group Islamic Relief Canada also predicted that this year’s Eid al Fitr will fall on Wednesday, July 6.
Eid al-Fitr (also known as Id al-Fitr or Eid ul-Fitr) marks the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan and the start of a feast that lasts up to three days in some countries.
Though, Eid is not national public holiday in Canada, however, many Islamic businesses and organizations alter their work hours during Eid celebrations.
Two years back, Justin Trudeau issued a following statement on Eid al-Fitr “As Muslims in Canada and around the world gather with family, friends, and community to mark the end of Ramadan, I would like to extend my warm wishes for a joyful holiday.
“Over the past month, I have had the great pleasure of joining members of the Muslim community in observing Ramadan, including at an Iftar dinner in Toronto. After witnessing this community coming together and the shared values that unite us, it is clear that Canada is made strong not in spite of our differences, but because of them.”
With this said, would Trudeau mark this Muslim festival as a Public Holiday? Muslim community of of Canada are signing a petition to demand a public holiday on Eid al-Fitr and Eid al Adha. So far, 18,828 people have singed the petition.
