PCB suggests Azhar Mehmood for Mushtaq

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has overlooked head coach Mickey Arthur’s recommendation to hire former leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed as bowling coach and instead recommended Azhar Mehmood s name for the slot.

Arthur wanted Mushtaq to mediate between national team, coach and PCB, but PCB thinks if Mushtaq travels with the team, National Cricket Academy (NCA) would suffer as Mushtaq Ahmed is working as NCA bowling coach.

PCB therefore suggested Azhar Mehmood’s name as he has played lot of cricket in England and has good knowledge about English wickets and conditions.

Sources suggest Arthr showed no objection over Azhar’s name. However, if Azhar is not available, Mushtaq would be ultimate choice for the role.

They further said the names of Aaqib Javed and Mohammad Akram were not discussed.
